Menu Planning and Meal Service
The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 made the first major changes to school meals in 15 years with the intention of raising a healthier generation of students.
The current meal standards align school meals with the latest nutrition science and MyPlate recommendations to ensure students are offered daily servings of fruits, vegetables, and fat-free and low-fat (1%) milk, as well as more whole grains to meet weekly requirements.
School meals must meet limits on calories, saturated fat and sodium. Meals must also be free of added trans-fat.
