Giant African Land Snail Eradication Updates and Information
Thirty years after the 1970s infestation, giant African land snails were detected in Florida in 2011. Since then, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Plant Industry, with the help of industry and the public, has been working to eradicate this invasive pest in South Florida. Program officials are optimistic that eradication will once again be achieved.
Quarantine Maps
The following quarantine zones have been established to prevent the movement of the giant African land snail (GALS). A federal order outlines the safeguarding measures required for the interstate movement of regulated articles from the areas regulated for giant African land snails. The requirements in the state's interior quarantine for GALS are parallel to this federal order.
