Florida Breakfast Challenge
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the next Florida Breakfast Challenge will be postponed until the 2021-2022 school year. While we are not hosting the Breakfast Challenge with awards and recognition, sponsors are encouraged to look for ways to maintain student interest in program breakfast meals. We hope the resources provided below help with year-round efforts. Additional grab-and-go meal options and meal service ideas can be found on our COVID-19 Resources page.
What Is the Florida Breakfast Challenge?
To challenge schools to increase breakfast participation, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services partnered with No Kid Hungry and the Dairy Council of Florida to host the Florida Breakfast Challenge during the 2019-2020 school year.
The competition was open to elementary, middle, high and combination-grade schools participating in the National School Lunch Program.
Schools competed in one of three categories based on enrollment. The Florida Breakfast Challenge compared the number of breakfasts served in January and February 2019 to those served in January and February 2020.
The schools with the largest percentage increase in breakfasts served received a combination of prizes, including cash, equipment and recognition. See the equipment prizes available .
