Veterinarian Accreditation

Licensed veterinarians can choose to take additional training to become accredited through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP). NVAP-accredited vets may perform testing for government disease programs and are authorized to prepare Official Certificates of Veterinary Inspection, or "health certificates," so that animals can move across state or national borders.

This page contains information and resources for veterinarians seeking to complete the state portion of the NVAP accreditation. Veterinarians will have two hours to complete the state accreditation exam, and must score at least an 80 percent. If you score below this, you must retake the exam.

Scores for the state exam are received automatically by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the USDA is notified of the scores within seven business days. The USDA handles the remainder of the accreditation approval and notification process.

If you have questions about NVAP accreditation, please visit the USDA website or contact the NVAP Coordinator for Florida, Mr. Robert Chadwell, at .

Please direct any questions about the state portion of the exam or requests for an exam access code to Dr. Nelly Amador-Jehn at .
