Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried released a video message marking the beginning of the National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, which is recognized from September 15 – October 15.
The video message can be downloaded here, viewed on Twitter here, and reads as follows:
“Today as we mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to recognize, honor, and celebrate the invaluable contributions of those of Hispanic heritage to our great nation for generations.
“Throughout our shared history, Hispanic Americans have brought diversity and vibrancy to shape our nation’s unique culture. Our society has been greatly shaped and benefited from their hard work, joy, strength, and faith that helps our nation keep moving forward, particularly in difficult times.
“This was undeniable throughout the difficulties of the pandemic, as many of our first responders and frontline workers are Hispanic, along with many of those in the agriculture industry who play a vital role in keeping our food supply safe and secure, putting food on tables nationwide every single day.
“In Florida the impact of Hispanic-Americans and immigrants is even more significant. Hispanic heritage is part of who we are as a state, a part of our identity – of our past and present, but above all, of our future.
“Please join me in recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month by paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have influenced and enriched our society with their spirit and strength, and the invaluable contributions to our society, our culture, and our economy – making Florida a better state for our diversity.
“De Corazón… ¡Gracias!”
