Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Florida A&M University vaccination site. Fried, who received the Moderna vaccine, was joined by Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. in encouraging Floridians to trust the science and get the vaccine once eligible. Fried is Florida’s first and only statewide elected official to publicly receive the vaccine.

“Thanks to the incredible staff here at Florida A&M University, it was quick and easy to get the vaccine today. I want to encourage everybody to get their vaccine once eligible, and I wanted to show everyone today across our state and country how important it is to get yourself vaccinated,” said Commissioner Fried. “This is how we’re saving lives and getting past this pandemic – we’re all in this together, so follow the science and get this vaccine created by experts. It’s safe, reliable, and the only way we’re going to get back to some semblance of normality, protect our friends and loved ones, and put this virus behind us.”
Commissioner Fried has strongly advocated for increasing vaccine eligibility across Florida, prioritizing high-risk professions including farmworkers and teachers.
