Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced the addition of two new communications professionals to join the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Office of Communications.
Sabina Covo will serve as Hispanic Media Director based in Miami, filling the role vacated by Maca Casado’s move to join the Democratic National Committee as their Hispanic Media Director, and Kassandra Curiel will serve as Social Media Manager. They join Director of Strategic Communications Erin Moffet and Deputy Communications Director Caroline Stonecipher.
“I am thrilled to welcome Sabina and Kassandra to the all-woman communications team here at FDACS,” Commissioner Fried said. “Their substantial experience and insight will be a huge asset to our department as we work to fulfill our mission of promoting our $149.5 billion agriculture community, protecting Florida consumers, advocating for energy efficiency and cleaner water, ensuring children are fed at school, and working to improve the lives of Floridians every day.”
Sabina Covo joins the department after serving as an award-winning journalist and political news anchor for Mega TV television network/Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc and a radio news presenter for syndicated radio network Gen Media. Sabina had also worked as the political TV reporter for Miami’s América TeVé and a news anchor for former Mundofox. She started her career in 2001 as a general assignment reporter for Telemundo 51 and WSUA 1260 am in Miami. Sabina has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Political Science from Florida International University and an international journalist award scholarship from Fundación Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Latin America. She has been a political analyst for international Hispanic networks such as CNN Espanol and NTN 24 and a Sunday columnist for El Nuevo Herald for over 14 years.
Kassandra Curiel joined the department in October as Social Media Manager, overseeing the department's digital, video, and social media content. She previously held a Business Associate role in the department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Florida State University where she worked with national and international researchers to ensure successful projects. Before her last role at Florida State, she was a writer for Her Campus and on the editorial team for a Florida State University literary magazine, a published writer herself. Curiel is a Cuban-American born and raised in Miami. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Political Science from Florida State University after graduating from The Honors College at Miami Dade College.
