Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, an independently-elected member of the Florida Cabinet, issued the following statement as COVID-19 cases surge in Florida:
“With the omicron variant quickly spreading and many families planning to travel or gather for the holidays, it’s important that every American takes the steps necessary to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19: masking, hand washing, social distancing, and getting vaccinated – and boosted – if eligible.
“I’m calling on Governor DeSantis to do the right thing and get out in public to encourage the use of these preventative measures – yes, even masks. We must prioritize encouraging high-risk Floridians in nursing homes and hospitals to get booster shots, and ensure that monoclonal antibody sites are available in these facilities across the state. We have the resources to get ahead of this, and we know that taking these steps will save lives.”
