Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced Staff Sergeant David Madeux, a U.S. Army veteran and intern with Soldiers’ Angels in Orlando, as the January 2021 selection for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Veteran of the Month.

The FDACS Veteran of the Month Initiative, established by Commissioner Fried shortly after taking office in 2019, recognizes veterans who have excelled in service to fellow Floridians, and honors the contributions that the men and women in uniform have made to our state.

“It's my privilege to recognize Staff Sergeant David Madeux for his selfless service and dedication to addressing food insecurity for Central Florida veterans," said Commissioner Fried. “We are proud of Staff Sergeant Madeux’s service to our nation and contributions to our state, including his efforts to provide our Armed Forces heroes in need with food assistance during these challenging times.”

Background: David Madeux is an U.S. Army veteran, where he served as a Unit Supply Sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division. During his time in the Army he deployed to Afghanistan and to Iraq three times, where he served in combat numerous times. As a Unit Supply Sergeant, David was responsible for tracking all property assigned to his unit to include the maintenance required to maintain the equipment. As an intern with Soldiers’ Angels in Orlando, he acts as the VA site coordinator and organizes several events that directly support veterans. These events include a monthly food bank that typically provides more than 250 veterans with food assistance at no cost to them.
